If you are looking for some greens, Crooked Cedar Farm has got them! Selvin and Edwina Harrell are growing some high demand products. The couple has taken up farming since retirement as it has been a life-long passion for the two. Both were raised growing and eating their own food and don't see another way to live. The farm consists of raised beds as well as in-ground plants. The Harrells plant to grow in season, so there is always something new and fresh for harvest. Currently the salad mix and leafy greens are thriving, along with the broccoli, the brussel sprouts and the herbs. Soon there will be carrots (they are currently tiny little sprouts!), tomatoes, radishes and much more. Edwina grows her plants from seed so nothing on the farm has missed her green thumb. The farm operates under full organic and natural conditions and and you can really tell - everything is just as lucious green as nature intended. And during the spring, the entire farm is flooded with brilliantly colored flowers - the Harrells grow cut flowers for market as well as potted plants. You can just see some buds starting to form, and the birds sure can't wait to get a hold of the blueberries! But, the Harrells let them. Selvin likes his birds. They say that it works just fine because the birds get the berries way up at the top that they couldn't reach anyway. And, the birds are great for keeping buggy pests away. You can find produce from Crooked Cedar Farm, including their irresistable salad mix, at the All-Local Farmer's Market in downtown Columbia, as well as at the Sandhill's Farmer's Market in Northeast Columbia. Or, give them a call! And, Selvin is a natural teacher. He's truly a great resource. Crooked Cedar Farm is owned and managed by Selvin and Edwina Harrell, along with their lizards, birds and ladybugs.
